Mechanism

Mechanism is a solo-developed indie adventure game that launched on July 19, 2018. After release, the developer shipped a series of patches improving camera controls, game mechanics, optimization, and bug fixes through December 2018, along with a Halloween special update in October 2018 that teased a "story addon." On June 24, 2019, the developer published a lengthy personal letter [NEWS-1] that serves as the clearest picture of where things stand. In it, the developer acknowledged that Mechanism had problems — bugs, unclear storytelling, confusing design decisions — and promised a "big patch with new and reworked content" before the end of summer 2019. However, the developer's primary focus had clearly shifted to a new game called Selfloss, which they announced in the same post and invited players to wishlist and demo. There have been no developer communications about Mechanism after June 24, 2019 — nearly seven years of silence as of today. The promised summer 2019 patch and the Halloween-teased story addon were never followed up on with any further announcements or releases. The sole DLC is the OST, which shipped on launch day. No unreleased DLC appears in the store listing. Given the developer's explicit pivot to Selfloss and the complete absence of any communication about Mechanism since June 2019, the game is effectively complete in its current state. The promised patch was never confirmed as delivered, but there is also no indication that any further content commitment remains active — the developer moved on. The game launched as a finite narrative experience and has received no meaningful content additions or communications in nearly seven years.
