Evaluation

MidBoss launched on May 25, 2017 and received active post-launch patching through late 2017, including a major quality-of-life overhaul (patch 1.2) in November 2017. On May 26, 2019, the developer announced an aesthetics and randomizer DLC was in development — the most recent communication specifically about MidBoss content. However, this DLC was never listed on the store as an unreleased product, and no subsequent posts confirm it shipped or that work continued. The January 2021 announcement was for an entirely different game (Kitsune Tails) by the same studio and contains no mention of the MidBoss DLC moving forward. The only DLC ever listed on the store — the original soundtrack — was released on launch day (May 25, 2017) and has no unreleased counterparts. The store description makes no mention of planned expansions or ongoing content seasons. With no DLC listed as unreleased, no developer post after May 2019 addressing MidBoss content, no major content releases after the 1.0 launch (the second "major_content" tag in the news scan refers to the launch of an entirely different game, Ultra Hat Dimension, in July 2020), and over six years of silence on the MidBoss DLC announcement, the evidence points to development having wound down. The announced DLC was never delivered and appears to have been quietly shelved. The game is best understood as a complete product, with its content having effectively concluded around the time of the last meaningful MidBoss-specific developer communication on May 26, 2019.

About this game

Kill your enemies, possess their bodies, and take their abilities as your own in this turn-based procedurally generated death labyrinth. You play as the imp, the weakest monster in the dungeon. Tired of being bullied by the other monsters, you set off with your sidekick Mid to descend to the deepest levels of the dungeon, defeat the final boss, and take his place.

MidBoss is easy to pick up and play if you're new to the genre of traditional roguelikes (turn-based strategic RPGs with permadeath), but still has the depth and complexity that veterans expect and enjoy.
