1930. Biyaodong, a mining town in the mountains of French Vietnam. Peacock stone output is collapsing, rival powers are circling, and deep inside the mine lies something older than any of their interests.
You are Lieutenant Chen, an ambitious Asian officer determined to earn a place among the senior ranks. Sent to investigate the mine's falling output, you soon find that warlords, merchants, local elders, and the colonial authorities all have their own agendas.

Main Characters
Lieutenant Chen
A 25-year-old officer in the French army. He does his best to dress like a fashionable Frenchman, speaks French whenever he can, and wears his uniform whenever he can. He comes to Biyaodong alone, set on making a name for himself.
Li Qingyang
Said to be a descendant of the Li warlords of Kunming. She likes to wear a Republican-era school uniform, with a cold gaze and tightly pressed lips. She comes to Biyaodong to look into the peacock stone trade, but...
Ruan Jinhong
Li Qingyang's assistant, of mixed heritage and born in French Vietnam. Fluent in Chinese, French, and Vietnamese. Eccentric, with an uncanny affinity for the mysterious.
Adjutant Katy
Lieutenant Chen's local adjutant. Steady and reliable, if a little lazy, and a bit too fond of drinking and gambling. He likes to be called "Adjutant" and is Chen's right-hand man.
