Evaluation
Monkey Split entered Steam Early Access on March 10, 2021. In the weeks following launch, the developer (Nerd Monkeys) was quite active — shipping several patches through May 2021 and organizing weekly community gameplay sessions in August 2021. A March 24, 2021 developer post described being in "the final week of development," suggesting a full release was considered close at that time.
However, the last developer communication of any kind was on August 4, 2021 — an announcement about community gameplay Thursdays. Since that date, there have been no patch notes, devlogs, announcements, or any other posts from the developer. The game has remained in Early Access with no 1.0 release, no roadmap, and no explanation for the prolonged silence. Nearly five years have passed since the last update.
The store description still describes the game as an evolving experiment being developed alongside the community, but there is no active sign that development is continuing. Given the long silence and the unresolved Early Access status, it is unclear whether development is still ongoing.
Evidence
Developer stated 'we are approaching the final week of development,' suggesting a 1.0 release was imminent — but this was never followed through.
Game launched into Early Access on March 10, 2021.

About this game
Welcome to our latest experiment called Monkey Split, a game being developed alongside our community on Discord and here on Steam. Thanks to everyone's comments, playtests, reports, suggestions, and ideas, we are slowly moulding this game into... something. What will be the end result? We aren't fully sure, but one thing is certain, it will be a game.
And now it's time for a completely different description:
You're now a monkey*, the room is full of stuff*, collect the stuff in the cardboard box while running away from the possessed monkey. EASY! Don't get caught!
And if you're the one possessed, catch every monkey and explode them into the Bananaverse*.
This game has*:
- Procedural generated maps;
- Lots of custom items for your monkey*;
- 30% more potassium*;
You should*:
- Have fun*;
- Ignore all the bugs*;
- Don't take anything here too seriously*;
You shouldn't:
- Not report the bugs**;
- Climb/Walk on the walls, you could get hurt***;
- Spank the monkey****;
Monkey Split features fast rounds, slow rounds, all the rounds and none of the rounds! ROUNDS!
Additional notes:
* Our code monkeys are still developing this game, so it may or may not include what was listed above and it may or may not work as planned;
** Please fill in the online form BS-85 respective to the Lisbon Monkey Accord of 1992;
*** This is not a threat;
**** Please don't*****;
***** Please stop with the asterisks**!;
