Evaluation
Ostriv is a solo-developed city-builder that remains in Early Access. The store page explicitly warns buyers that the game is still in development and that "there can be long delays between updates."
Alpha 6 is the developer's current major project and has grown substantially in scope. As of August 13, 2026 — the most recent developer post — the developer is actively building Alpha 6 features, including at least 24 confirmed new buildings (with 4 more under consideration), 42 new resource types (for comparison, the entire game had 48 resource types as of Alpha 2), expanded religion mechanics that go beyond a simple population threshold, a new building appearance customization system that allows players to customize a building's look before placing it, and a new pre-built settlement starting option. The developer is also working on free-form farm field shapes, a new "upkeep resources" logistics system (meaning tools, sacks, and baskets will no longer appear from thin air), and a comprehensive rebalancing of in-game unit measurements.
The developer has maintained a consistent cadence of communication and regular patch releases throughout 2025 and into 2026, with hotfix posts in virtually every month. The current public version continues to receive incremental improvements — including significant reworks to field crop mechanics in December 2025 and a major pathfinding overhaul in January 2026 — while Alpha 6 work proceeds in a parallel development branch.
In a July 2025 development update, the developer stated their goal from day one has been to release a finished game, and described Alpha 6 as potentially "the last update of this size before the final release," signaling that a 1.0 launch remains the long-term goal. Development is active, communication is current, and substantial content is explicitly in progress.
Evidence
Developer teases two Alpha 6 features: a pre-built settlement starting option and a building appearance customization system that lets players change a building's look before placing it. Most recent developer communication.
Developer confirms 24 new buildings for Alpha 6 (with 4 more under consideration) and 42 new planned resource types. Also previews expanded religion mechanics and a new 'upkeep resources' logistics concept.

About this game
Ostriv aims to raise the bar of city-building experience by adding a huge amount of possibilities and removing annoying limitations. It allows for truly organic town layouts without the grid and angle restrictions on a three-dimensional landscape. The goal is to make player's creations to become alive and believable communities where real-life problems would arise, thus making the late game a new challenge rather than a repetitive chore.
