Evaluation
Overgrowth launched on October 16, 2017 after a long development period. The game includes a main story mode, a prequel story, and support for community mods through an integrated editor.
The most significant development milestone came on April 21, 2022, when Wolfire Games announced that Overgrowth had been made open source. In a video post, developer Max Danielsson explained what this means for the game. Open-sourcing a game is typically a signal that the developer considers the product complete and is transitioning it to community stewardship rather than continuing active commercial development.
Prior to that, in December 2021, the studio shared an online multiplayer prototype available as an opt-in Steam beta branch. However, this was explicitly described as a prototype for internal testing — and no follow-up announcement ever confirmed it was completed or released as a finished feature. Given that the open source announcement came four months later with no mention of multiplayer, the prototype was most likely shelved.
The only DLC ever released is the game's soundtrack (April 15, 2022), which is a non-gameplay addition. There are no unreleased DLC entries on the store.
The most recent developer news post (February 10, 2023) is a fan-made or community video about ragdoll physics, not a developer update about new content or features. It does not indicate any new content is coming.
With the game open-sourced and no content announcements since April 2022, the game is effectively complete. The open source announcement on April 21, 2022 represents the clearest marker of Wolfire concluding their active development of Overgrowth.

About this game
As a lightning-fast acrobatic ninja rabbit, you can choose how to approach each encounter. Do you want to pick off enemies one at a time like the killer in a slasher film? Dive into the thick of it and fight whole groups in a frontal assault? Steal the most powerful weapon you can find, and turn it on the rest?
If you die, there is never any load time; you can try again instantly! As your skills improve, you'll see that the game is not about winning. It's about experimenting to make the coolest action scenes that you can. Every design decision is made with that in mind, from the mouselook camera to the context-sensitive combat controls.
After completing the story modes, you can try out all the mods that players have created with the integrated editor! If you want to play as a human character in a city, or try a whole new campaign, or even fly around as a bat, there's probably already a mod that makes that happen.
