Owlboy launched on November 1, 2016, after nearly a decade of development. On October 1, 2026 — today's date — D-Pad Studio published a detailed announcement revealing a 10th Anniversary Update scheduled to release on November 1, 2026. The update includes several meaningful additions: an auto-aim system that makes the game playable without a second thumbstick, a new Super Dash movement ability, retuned enemy and boss encounters with expanded gunner interactions, the ability to skip cutscenes and boss intros, and a variety of balance and pacing improvements throughout the game. The developer confirmed the update launches on November 1st and will be accompanied by a major discount. After this update ships, D-Pad Studio has stated they will return their focus to their next title, Vikings On Trampolines. The anniversary update has not yet shipped as of today, which means Owlboy currently has announced content in the pipeline.
