Evaluation
PLAYNE released on May 1, 2020 and has received a steady stream of updates since then. The VR DLC launched on January 19, 2021 as a free update, with a significant Biomes + VR improvement patch following in July 2021. The base game on Steam appears to be feature-complete, with its one released DLC (Playne VR) fully shipped.
However, the developer — a solo indie developer named Krish Shrikumar — has been actively working on bringing PLAYNE to mobile platforms. In May 2024, a Kickstarter campaign launched for PLAYNE on iOS and Android, and by June 2024 it was successfully funded. In March 2025, a closed beta for PLAYNE Mobile began rolling out to Kickstarter backers. This represents a meaningful extension of the PLAYNE experience actively in development.
In April 2025, the developer also announced a separate new game called EMERGE, releasing May 1, 2025, which is a distinct project from PLAYNE. This does not impact PLAYNE's content status but confirms the developer remains active.

Meditation is a way for us to learn about ourselves by discovering our inner world. As we better understand our inner world, the better we can respond to our outer world. I grew up with meditation and video games, and I'm exploring how video games can make it easier to learn and build a habit of meditation and mindfulness.
With nearly 15+ significant updates and 50+ patches, Playne has made a full journey from early access to full release thanks to its wonderful community's feedback and support.
