Evaluation

Prodigal launched on October 15, 2020 and received a strong run of post-launch content updates. Over its lifespan, the developer shipped multiple major updates: "Gods and Gamblers" (December 1, 2020), "The Engineer and the Deputy" (January 3, 2021), "Hero's Rest" v1.3 (March 16, 2021), "Rock Polish" v1.5 (May 14, 2022), and "Sunset Wave 2 + Veritus" v1.7 (July 27, 2023). That July 2023 post was explicitly framed as the end of the game's lifespan — Colorgrave announced Veritus as their next project and indicated Prodigal's development chapter was closing. On May 12, 2026, the developer posted one final surprise update — Prodigal 1.8 — with the candid acknowledgment "I know we said we were done touching this game, but we just can't help ourselves." This update added a new dungeon, a hidden boss, new pickaxes, new NPC events, soundtrack updates, and various quality-of-life improvements. While the tone is affectionate and unplanned, no further content was announced alongside it — the post reads as a genuine farewell bonus rather than the start of a new content cycle. The only DLC is the soundtrack, released at launch. The store description does not reference any upcoming content or seasonal structure. Colorgrave's focus has clearly shifted to their next game, Curse Chapter: Dawnthief (announced December 2025), and the Veritus project. Prodigal is a fully realized, complete game as of May 12, 2026.
Evidence
Prodigal 1.8 released as a surprise update adding a new dungeon, hidden boss, new pickaxes, NPC events, and numerous fixes. Developer says 'I know we said we were done touching this game' — framing this as an unplanned but final bonus update, with no further content announced.
