Evaluation

Puck is a free-to-play physics-based hockey game that launched on January 4, 2025 and has received a steady stream of substantial updates ever since. NS7 has published major updates at a consistent pace: Build 103 (December 19, 2024), Builds 163–174 (February–March 2025), Build 185 (April 2025), Build 202 (June 2025), the landmark Build B897 on May 23, 2026 (introducing ELO-based ranked matchmaking, full party support, and a complete UI overhaul), and then two more significant updates in quick succession — a large visual and quality-of-life pass on July 10, 2026 (Build B1153), and a networking overhaul on August 14, 2026 (Build B1235). The most recent update, just five days before today's date, reworked how the game handles network traffic, added new matchmaking settings, and rebalanced abandon cooldowns. The July 10 update added goal celebration cameras, a new cosmetic stick skin line, goalie crease protection, and extensive UI and server improvements. Build B897 explicitly noted that a match history UI is "coming in a future update," and an earlier update flagged the Classic stick line for future expansion — both are forward-looking commitments that remain outstanding. The developer has shown no sign of winding down. The cadence has, if anything, accelerated in 2026, and no statement about concluding development has been made.
Evidence
Build B1235 released with a full networking overhaul (50% bandwidth reduction, new Network Buffering setting, smoother replays), matchmaking queue improvements, and rebalanced abandon cooldowns. Last developer communication as of today.
