Evaluation
Receiver is the original 2013 game from Wolfire Games, created as a 7-day game jam project. Its successor, Receiver 2, launched on April 14, 2020 as a full separate title. Since then, Wolfire has continued to ship occasional updates to the original Receiver — including a 2019 engine upgrade, Steam Workshop support in August 2020, input/settings improvements in January 2021, and a Modifiers system update in March 2023. The most recent activity was a minor bug fix on June 5, 2023 to address a macOS Apple Silicon crash.
There are no unreleased DLC entries, no announced future content, and no developer statements indicating further updates are planned. The update history shows the original Receiver has received periodic maintenance and quality-of-life improvements over the years, but the cadence is sparse and irregular — not the kind of sustained major content cadence that would suggest ongoing content development. The March 2023 Modifiers update was the last feature addition, and it explicitly advertised Receiver 2 in the pause menu, reinforcing that the original game is treated as a legacy product. The last developer communication of any kind was the June 5, 2023 bug fix. No posts since that date suggest further development is planned. The only DLC — a soundtrack — was released on April 15, 2022. The game appears to have reached its natural end-of-life as a complete, standalone experience.
Evidence
Modifiers Update (v10) added new gameplay modifiers, custom seeds, performance fixes, and an in-game advertisement for Receiver 2. Described as a feature update, with no announcement of future content.
The only DLC for the game is the official soundtrack, which has been released. No unreleased DLC exists.
