Evaluation

RIVE launched on September 13, 2016 as the self-described final game from Two Tribes. The developer announced as early as March 2016 that RIVE would be the studio's last game, and they reiterated this at launch and throughout post-launch communications. After launch, Two Tribes delivered a meaningful round of post-launch support: several patches addressed bugs and difficulty balance in September and October 2016, followed by a substantial free expansion on November 22, 2016 that added Challenges, Battle Arenas, and a new Normal difficulty mode. In that same November post, the studio explicitly confirmed they were not working on any new projects, that the team had shrunk to just two people, and that the update was their commitment to making RIVE "the best possible version of itself." The final developer communication was a March 1, 2017 patch (v1.15) adding five new language translations and a handful of bug fixes. No further updates, announcements, or developer communications have followed that March 2017 post. There are no unreleased DLC entries on the store, no roadmap promising future content, and no outstanding commitments. The developer's own statements make clear that RIVE was always intended as a complete, finished product — their final release — and the post-launch updates were polish and bonus content rather than the beginning of an ongoing content cycle. The game is complete.
