Evaluation

Roll launched on May 13, 2021 and has received a consistent series of major content updates from solo developer Joseph Distler (known as Xrai). The named major updates post-launch are: a large content update on June 17, 2021 (68 new upgrades); The Viral Update on December 6, 2021 (new die faces and passives); Roll 2.0 on December 4, 2023 (90 new shop items, three new game modes, mobile release); Roll 2.1 on December 20, 2023 (8 new shop items and additional features); and The Achievement Update on February 3, 2025 (41 achievements, 34 new shop items, new modifiers, new Quick Mode options). Between these, the developer also shipped multiple feature patches improving UI, balance, and quality of life. The intervals between major updates span roughly 6 months to 2 years, consistent with solo development. The most recent major update shipped on February 3, 2025. As of October 1, 2026 — approximately 20 months since that last major release — the gap is approaching the longer end of the historical range but has not definitively exceeded it, and the developer has made no announcement that development is concluding. No "final update" or end-of-support language has appeared in any post.

About this game

In Roll, you have 2500 rolls to collect as many points as possible. Roll your dice to gain points, spend your points to upgrade your dice, and repeat. Borrowing gameplay elements from strategy, clicker, and roguelike deckbuilder genres, Roll creates a perfect balance of relaxation with critical thinking.

Roll is designed first and foremost as a relaxing and meditative experience. Get lost in the puzzle as the satisfying sounds and effects melt away your worries. From the minimalistic UI to the slow peaceful music, everything was designed to create the perfect zen environment.

If that's not enough to convince you, perhaps one of the HUNDREDS of dice upgrades will. Roll is about much more than simply rolling dice! There are infinite combos and synergies to explore, numbers to multiply, infections to cure, and snakes to charm! Global leaderboards and weekly challenges ensure there is always something to come back for!

A Note From the Developer:

If you’re thinking about buying Roll please keep in mind that while I am super passionate about this game, I am a solo developer. This is not a triple A experience with 4k graphics. Instead, I offer a deep, satisfying experience inspired by roguelike mechanics. Get it for less than Mcdonald's.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have feedback, questions, or problems with the game. I’ll do my best to get back to you as quickly as possible and provide support if needed. Also let me know if you enjoyed the game, because that makes my day and motivates my future projects!
