ROM: Extraction launched on December 7, 2016 and received one major free content expansion — "Overrun" — on February 28, 2017, adding a new level, enemies, weapons, and leaderboards. Following that release, the developer issued a hotfix on March 2, 2017 and a performance optimization patch on April 20, 2017. That April 20, 2017 post is the last recorded communication from First Contact Entertainment.
The store description lists ambitious future content plans — co-op multiplayer, more levels, character skins, new enemies, and power-ups — but these appear to have been aspirational goals that were never delivered. No further updates, announcements, or developer communications have followed the April 2017 patch. As of June 27, 2026, development has been silent for over nine years, with no roadmap fulfilled and no explanation provided by the developer.
Given the extreme length of silence and the complete absence of any follow-up communication, the promised future content can be treated as abandoned. The game's content effectively concluded with the April 20, 2017 optimization patch, which was the last substantive developer activity following the Overrun expansion.

- Use Orbs in combination with your pistol to “Throw, Slow, and Shoot”
- Shoot Orbs in proximity of enemies for the most strategic kills
- Use the environment to your advantage--be on the lookout for destructibles
- Grab the two-handed EOS-15 rifle when you shoot the floating gun token
- Use the EOS-15 to “Launch, Slow, Shoot”--a new twist on the core game mechanic that gives you an orb-launching, auto-firing weapon of destruction
- When “jumpers” are in close proximity, use your pistol or EOS-15 to pop off their heads!
