Sail VR entered Steam Early Access on August 10, 2022 and remains in that state. Red Team Interactive Inc. has maintained a consistent and active development cadence throughout, with 8 major content updates logged across the news history and a total of 49 posts including feature patches and bug fixes. Recent major updates include: New Weapons (October 3, 2024), Ship Customization overhaul (April 5, 2024), a Graphics Update with new waves, skybox, and music (September 9, 2025), a Lava Raid and Grappling Gun update (March 25, 2026), the Patron Cave cosmetics system with a new cloud-based save backend (April 22, 2026), an Inventory and Vault overhaul with new cosmetics and bounty systems (July 2, 2026), and most recently a cosmetic and avatar preparation update on September 7, 2026. The April 2026 update explicitly states upcoming plans: "Next update we will be adding more things to help you progress in Sail and we will increase the Level Cap." The September 7, 2026 update notes a "cosmetic revamp in preparation for female avatar and presets," signaling that this feature is still in progress. Major updates have arrived roughly every 2–4 months throughout 2026, and the most recent communication is from September 7, 2026 — just 10 days before today. Sail Multiplayer is loaded with repayable features including:

- Social Lobbies: Join forces with friends or make new ones in the pirate social lobbies.

- PvP Pirate Combat: Battle other crews in in exhilarating ship-to-ship combat or sword duels.
