Evaluation

Sea Power: Naval Combat in the Missile Age remains in Early Access with active, ongoing development and substantial named content still ahead on the developer's roadmap. The game has shipped six major content updates since launching on November 12, 2024: Update 0.4.0 introducing the first linear campaign (August 1, 2025), the PLAN faction and scenario pack (October 1, 2025), the Black Friday feature update including a major flight deck overhaul (November 28, 2025), Update 0.7.0 with the Strike Group Molniya persistent campaign and missile kinematics (February 23, 2026), Update 0.8.0 introducing Pacific Strike '85 and Task Force Mode (July 4, 2026), and Update 0.8.3 on October 1, 2026 — the day before today's assessment date — adding OODA loop systems, a gunnery overhaul, the VLS Ticonderoga and VLS Spruance, and campaign improvements including dynamic enemy forces in Pacific Strike. Update 0.8.3 explicitly states it is not the Royal Navy update, and refers players to a schedule update within the same post. The August 26, 2026 announcement confirmed a target of October 2026 for the Royal Navy and Argentina faction release package, which will include both factions, new units, voiceovers, scenarios, and a South Atlantic 1982 campaign playable from either side. Dynamic Campaign Phase 1 remains on the roadmap for the end of 2026, with the developer describing Task Force Mode and Pacific Strike '85 as deliberate stepping stones toward that larger goal. The developer has maintained a consistent communication cadence throughout Early Access, with detailed patch notes, development reports, roadmap updates, and a public AMA. There is no indication of an imminent 1.0 release or conclusion of Early Access.
Evidence
Update 0.8.3 released, explicitly stating it is not the Royal Navy update and that the Royal Navy, Argentina, and Falklands content is being prepared for a separate release.

About this game

After hostilities have broken out in Central Europe, the race is on as a pressured US Navy escort force battle off Soviet bomber and submarine attacks on a perilous quest to reinforce NATO defenders in Europe. Meanwhile, in the Persian Gulf, the conflict between Iran and Iraq risks escalating into a larger confrontation between superpowers as both sides indiscriminately attack neutral merchant shipping. And in the Norwegian Sea, an outnumbered Soviet surface force challenges the might of a massive US Navy amphibious force bound for occupied Norway...

Brought to you by the lead designer of Cold Waters, Sea Power lets you control NATO and Warsaw Pact forces in a modern naval conflict. Whether it's gunning it out with Boghammars in a surface duel, fighting off aerial attackers armed with long-range missiles, or hunting for enemy submarines with aircraft and surface ships, advanced weaponry and sensors are at your disposal.

Can you successfully hide your forces while detecting and tracking theirs? It is up to you to play an advanced game of cat and mouse on the high seas, to seize the initiative and attack with the advantage of surprise on your side. And at all times, you have to observe rules of engagement and take care not to cause an unnecessary incident that could lead to escalation. After all, you cannot really be sure just who that radar contact at 30.000 feet is, can you?
