Evaluation

Sengoku Voxel Castle With Zundamon remains in Early Access and continues to receive active development from KC Project. The game launched into Early Access on December 6, 2024, and has been updated at a consistent and frequent pace ever since. The most recent update, Ver. 0.99, released on September 29, 2026, is the largest update yet, adding mines (backed by real Japanese government mining data), a siege battle mode where players can publish their own castles as mods and attack castles made by other players, continued support for the "100 Famous Castles" feature, varied tree types, and many other features and balance adjustments. This update addressed the mining system that the developer had previously identified as a remaining goal before 1.0. In the Ver. 0.99 post, the developer explicitly states what still needs to happen before the official 1.0 release: fixing bugs found in this version, implementing the remaining buildings and enemy unit types, and completing all missing translations. These are clear, named outstanding commitments directly from the developer. Earlier in the development timeline, the June 2026 announcement for ver. 0.9 Beta had outlined that diplomacy feature adjustments and a mining system remained before 1.0. The mining system has now shipped with Ver. 0.99, but remaining buildings and enemy units have taken its place as the outstanding work. The development history shows a strong cadence of major and feature updates: world map terrain generation (September 2025), worker food/survival systems (August 2025), cavalry (October 2025), English and Chinese voice acting (November 2025), the full Quest System with 26 historical factions (July 2026), and now Ver. 0.99. The developer communicates openly and frequently about what remains before the full release, and that communication continues right up to today's date.

About this game

Sengoku Voxel Castle is an adorably cute city-building tower defense game set in Japan’s Sengoku period.
The game is inspired by Minecraft, Farthest Frontier, and Bonsai Castles.

・Defeat over 3000 enemies at once in exhilarating large-scale battles.

・Build and manage over 60 types of production facilities inspired by Sengoku-era culture and technology.

・Create a castle together with cute characters like Tohoku Kiritan and Zundamon, and survive the chaos of the Sengoku period!

・The ground is made of blocks (voxels) whose height can be freely adjusted. Create the strongest terrain and counter your enemies!

・Use MODs to freely customize the appearance of your town!

・Uses data from Japan’s Geospatial Information Authority. Build castles on realistic Japanese terrain!

(Repel massive enemy waves using height differences and crossfire!)

(Protect your town with many Zundamon!)

(Unlock technologies to build many different types of buildings—all fully voxel-based and cute!)

Who are Tohoku Kiritan and Zundamon?

Tohoku Kiritan and Zundamon are characters created by a Japanese company, SSS LLC, in 2011—the year of the Great East Japan Earthquake—to support the recovery and revitalization of the Tohoku region.

Zundamon, in particular, gained explosive popularity in Japan after a free-to-use synthetic voice was released in 2021, becoming widely known through YouTube voice commentary.

Sengoku Voxel Castle is a fan game featuring these characters, but it is designed so that you can fully enjoy it even without prior knowledge of them.

If you’re interested in Sengoku-era city-building games, or Japanese-style RTS, we highly recommend giving it a try!

Tohoku Kiritan (Age 11)

The youngest of the three Tohoku sisters.
Her older sisters are Tohoku Zunko (17) and Tohoku Itako (19).

She carries the “Kiritan Cannon” on her back, inspired by kiritanpo, long style rice cake.
Her birthday is February 13.

In this game, she is caught up in Sengoku-era warfare and becomes separated from her sisters.
Together with Zundamon, she escapes to an uninhabited land, builds a new village, and fights to survive while hoping to reunite with her family.

Zundamon (Human Form)

A humanized form of an edamame fairy.
Age unknown. Birthday: December 5.

She loves zunda mochi and can transform into a Zunda Arrow.
In official novels and comics, she often splits into multiple copies—and many Zundamon appear in this game as well.

In-game, Zundamon supports logistics in your town and fights alongside Kiritan as a reliable ally.
