Sepia Tears

Sepia Tears is a free-to-play romance visual novel that originally launched on January 8, 2016. The developer expanded the game over several years, releasing the Original Soundtrack DLC on December 7, 2018, and the Reprise Edition DLC on October 7, 2019 — a paid expansion that added three new chapters, remastered art, and a new soundtrack, bringing the total story to around 50,000 words. When the Reprise Edition launched, the developer explicitly stated: "This release will mark the end of Sepia Tears as a franchise." Following that, a final art update shipped on September 4, 2021 with fully remastered character sprites for the Reprise Edition chapters, completing the visual overhaul that had been teased in July 2021. All DLC listed on the store has been released. Since the sprite update, the developer's communications have focused on new language localizations (Russian in May 2024, Turkish and Simplified Chinese in June 2025) and the launch of their next game, Monospaced Lovers, in November 2024. Localizations are maintenance-level additions, not new story content. The developer has moved on to other projects, and no new content for Sepia Tears has been announced. The September 4, 2021 sprite update represents the final substantive content addition to the game.
