Evaluation

Shrieking Darkness: Reloaded launched on October 30, 2023, as a free-to-play first-person horror shooter developed by a single developer (Alexander Walford, previously operating under the Renovate Software LTD label). Since launch, the developer has maintained a steady pattern of post-launch updates. Notable milestones include: early mod support and multiplayer added in December 2023; new game modes and experimental content in February 2024; the large Version 1.25 update in July 2024 introducing a new shotgun, a sanity system, a new enemy, and map changes; a one-year anniversary update in October 2024 adding a new map and enemy type for community testing; and the most recent update (Version 1.5.5) on May 23, 2026, which added a weapon hotbar, inventory improvements, and other refinements. A notable development occurred in December 2025: the developer posted that the game is no longer licensed under Renovate Software LTD and is now solely developed and maintained by Alexander Walford personally. This represents a change in business structure but not a discontinuation of development — the May 2026 update confirms ongoing work continued after this transition. The July 2024 update post explicitly stated the developer plans to "continue to add new features and mechanics to the game as well as updating the multiplayer." No post has announced the completion of development or that no further content is planned. The most recent developer communication was on May 23, 2026, indicating the developer remains engaged with the project. Given the history of updates roughly every few months, the current period since May 2026 is well within the developer's typical update cadence.

About this game

Core Gameplay

Step into a game that perfectly mixes horror with a first-person shooter perspective. Complete technical puzzles, fight your way through tough environments filled with enemies, and find out just what has been happening here.

The Background

You play as Kyle East, a middle-aged freelance journalist who lives a very average life. Your goal is to investigate the Walker family’s mansion located in a small forest in Eastend so that you can write a viral news story that could forever change your career.

The mansion was built by the members of the immortal ancient village that have been living off the grid for several centuries. It is believed that the mansion is much vaster in size than it appears on the outside, spanning deep underground.

Find The Darkness

What will you find in the mansion? Are you alone? Will you be able to find out what has been going on there? The darkness is waiting for you, don’t leave it waiting or it’ll find you. There's plenty to explore, investigate and kill.

Gameplay Features

The game favors core gameplay features such as:

  • Weaponry, such as guns.
  • Inventory management.
  • Story-driven narrative to keep the player engaged.
  • Immersive graphics and environments for added realism.
  • Deep Learning Super Sampling, High Fidelity FX Super Resolution (fallback).
  • Raytraced lighting and reflections.
  • Cloud saving and modification.
