Evaluation

Sid Meier's Civilization V launched on September 21, 2010 and received a substantial library of post-launch content over the following three years. This includes two major expansions — Gods and Kings and Brave New World — plus numerous smaller DLC packs covering new civilizations, scenario packs, and map packs. The last DLC released was the Scrambled Nations Map Pack on November 5, 2013, and the last meaningful gameplay patch was issued on October 27, 2014. A technical maintenance update removing the 2K launcher was pushed on November 25, 2024, but this is purely a compatibility action with no new content. All 15 DLC items listed on the store are marked as released, with no unreleased content remaining. The developer has made no announcements of future content for Civilization V since 2014. Recent news posts appearing on this game's Steam page — including Civilization VII update announcements from May and September 2026 — concern Civilization VII exclusively and treat Civilization V as a legacy catalog title. Firaxis's active development focus has moved on to Civilization VI (expansions through 2019) and Civilization VII (released February 2025, still receiving major updates as of May 2026). Civilization V's content development concluded over a decade ago, and it is a complete, finished product.
