Evaluation

Slots & Daggers launched on October 24, 2025 as a self-described "small, focused" solo project. The developer, Friedemann, was explicit in the store description that this is a short, intentionally scoped game — "4-8 hours," made by one person, "not meant to have the amount of content as games built by bigger teams over years." Following launch, Friedemann shipped a rapid burst of polish updates: balance hotfixes on launch day, daily bug fix patches through the first week, new mechanics on October 31, and a "What's Next" post on November 3, 2025 that announced 100,000 sales and a slowdown in patch cadence while the developer recharged. On August 18, 2026, Friedemann posted a milestone update marking 300,000 copies sold. This is the clearest statement of where the game stands: the developer acknowledges "the last couple of months have been a bit quiet," explains they burned out post-launch, tried to find ideas for more Slots & Daggers content but "none of it feels quite right," and has since moved on to prototyping new games. The post states clearly: "Slots & Daggers is in very good shape... I think it's okay to leave the game as it is for now." While Friedemann adds "I'm not saying there won't be any future content updates," this is a soft hedge rather than an announcement of planned content — the developer explicitly says they have not found a way back into the project. The same post announced a mobile port (iOS/Android) and that the soundtrack was submitted to Steam for review. The soundtrack (the only DLC listed) was released on September 10, 2026, completing what was telegraphed in the August 18 post. There are no unreleased DLC items, no announced expansions or roadmaps, and no outstanding developer commitments. The game shipped as a complete, intentionally scoped package and the developer has communicated that they have stepped back from active development.
Evidence
Developer marks 300,000 sales and openly states they have stepped away from Slots & Daggers, tried to find ideas for more content but none felt right, and has moved on to prototyping new games. Says the game is 'in very good shape' and 'okay to leave as it is for now.' Soft hedge added ('I'm not saying there won't be any future content updates') but no specific content announced.

About this game

Steady your blade - and spin!

After my last game SUMMERHOUSE, I wanted to make something radically different. Still small, but faster, with numbers, fights and goblins!

The result is SLOTS & DAGGERS, a strange little blend of slot machine and fantasy RPG.

To make this game I combined a lot of things I deeply love – weird fantasy worlds, crude drawings of strange little guys, old school crunchy hiphop drum machines and addictive arcade games that go “PLING PLING PLING” as they spit out little coins – with classic roguelike mechanics.

The features of this game are:

  • Fun slot machine

  • Weird fantasy world

  • 4-8 hour campaign

  • Crude drawings of strange little guys

  • Retro visuals

  • Crunchy hip hop drum machines

  • ‘Egg arena’ high score mode for the truly determined

  • Addictive arcade gameplay that goes “pling” a lot

  • Numbers! Fights! Goblins!

As with SUMMERHOUSE, please keep in mind this game is a solo project - small, focused, and made with care. It’s meant to be short and sweet and doesn’t have the amount of content as games built by bigger teams over years, but I think it’s a fair deal!

I hope you have a good time with SLOTS & DAGGERS <3

Cheers,

Friedemann
