Sometimes Always Monsters

Sometimes Always Monsters launched on April 2, 2020 and received a healthy wave of post-launch updates through mid-2021. In the months following release, the developer shipped frequent feature patches and two notable content drops: a major content update in August 2020 (which also launched the Author Outfits DLC), and another significant content update in May 2021 that added new NPCs, storylines, and locations. All three DLC items listed on the store — the soundtrack, the Party Dogs DLC, and the Author Outfits pack — have been released, with the last one shipping in August 2020. The May 2021 update post is the last substantive developer communication about the game's content. In it, Vagabond Dog acknowledged they were preparing to move into production on their next major project, and stated that future updates to Sometimes Always Monsters would continue "more periodically" than before. However, no further content updates appear to have shipped after that point. On April 2, 2025 — the game's five-year anniversary — Vagabond Dog posted a brief message thanking players and announcing a permanent price drop. This post contains no mention of upcoming content, new features, or ongoing development work. With all announced DLC released, no unreleased content listed on the store, no developer statements promising future updates, and the studio's own words in May 2021 indicating their focus had shifted to a new project, the game appears to have reached its completed state.
