Spark in the Dark launched into Early Access on April 7, 2026 with three dungeon layers, and Stellar Fish has been actively developing it toward a fuller release ever since. The developer has maintained a consistent cadence of patches — roughly 15+ updates shipped between April 7, 2026 and June 13, 2026 — covering new animations, combat systems, stealth improvements, balance changes, and bug fixes. The most recent developer communication, a roadmap post on July 25, 2026, outlines two concrete upcoming milestones. First, a major gameplay update is planned for late summer / early September 2026, focusing on deepening existing systems rather than adding new layers. It includes a new Hero Traits system (where gameplay choices gradually shape the character), expanded combat and stealth mechanics, additional equipment and items, and improved creature perception. Second, Tier 4 — described as the largest content expansion since the Early Access launch — is targeting a Q4 2026 release, introducing an entirely new dungeon layer with new locations, enemies, discoveries, and challenges. An April 25, 2026 post confirmed the same Q4 2026 target for the 4th layer immediately after launch, and the July 25 roadmap post reaffirms that this work is progressing "at full speed."
