Evaluation

Subterranauts launched on October 19, 2025 as a 1-6 player multiplayer horror game. The developer has been consistently shipping updates both before and after the 1.0 release. The update history includes: Version 0.3.25 "Say Cheese" (November 13, 2024) adding two new entities, new scrap items, and new facility tiles; Version 0.3.31 (November 18, 2024) adding full controller support; Version 0.3.50 "It's Time" (December 8, 2024) adding an Arctic surface biome with five new maps and a new weather event; Version 1.0.09 "The Ward" (October 19, 2025) adding a new facility layout and entity on launch day; and Patch 1.0.31 (February 20, 2026) delivering balance tweaks and bug fixes. This establishes a consistent pattern of updates roughly every few weeks to months, covering new content (entities, biomes, facilities, equipment) as well as ongoing polish. The developer has not announced the end of development or stated that no further content is planned. Today's date is September 24, 2026, meaning the last developer communication was on February 20, 2026 — approximately seven months ago. This is a longer quiet period than the prior update cadence would suggest, though the developer is a solo indie developer with no fixed release schedule. The update history shows no formal announcements of future content either, so while the silence is notable, the developer has also never communicated that development is concluding. The gap falls near the boundary of concern, but without any distress signals or a formal conclusion statement, the sustained history of content additions still supports an ongoing development pattern.

About this game

You’ve been assigned as a Subterranaut for Association of Scrap Allocation. This isn’t the job you applied for, but it’s the only one you got. Your sole responsibility is to gather scrap for the Association from the depths below the wasteland.

Your work begins on the train. You’ll route it to different abandoned stations across the wasteland. You won’t question why or how—you’ll just go where you’re told, because there’s nowhere else for you to be.

When the elevator takes you down, you’ll enter the dark, forgotten remains of facilities abandoned long ago. What you find there isn’t important. What’s important is that you return with something useful. If you don’t, someone else will.

.

You’re not alone in this. Use your radio to stay in contact with your team, but don’t expect any help if things go wrong. The train’s terminal controls bulkheads, cameras, lights, and more, but once the day ends, you might be left behind. It’s just how things are.

Scrap is what matters. The more you bring back, the more you justify your existence here. If you don’t succeed, don’t worry—the scrap will still find its way to the Association, with or without you.

You’ll encounter dangers down below, but they aren’t our concern. Your survival is secondary to the mission. The Association expects losses, and you’ve already been factored in.
