Evaluation
Sword Daughter is a digital adaptation of a 1980s fantasy gamebook, released on February 13, 2015. It launched as a complete, self-contained product with a fixed set of paths and 22 defined endings. A quality-of-life patch on June 25, 2015 added a "jump back to last choice" feature to improve navigation flow — the only post-launch update on record. On September 18, 2026, the developer announced that the game will transition to free-to-play status on September 30, 2026, citing the death of the original author. The developer's note confirms existing owners retain their copies and trading cards, and explains the reasoning behind the pricing change. No new content is announced or implied — this is purely a pricing and access decision, not a content development update. The game remains purchasable and the content has been complete since its 2015 launch.
Evidence
Developer announces the game will transition to free status on September 30, 2026, following the death of the original gamebook author. No new content is mentioned — this is a pricing change only.
Store description presents the game as a faithful recreation of a pre-existing 1980s gamebook with 22 defined endings — a fixed, finite product by design.

About this game
A licensed adaptation of an original 1980s fantasy gamebook, faithfully recreated with new soundtrack and artwork. Player choices lead to 22 different endings!
All your life, you dream of adventure: knights, dragons, magic rings, chests of gold, and all the danger and glory that awaits a professional swordswoman. But every dream has a cost. You are on your way across the desert wastes to compete in the Warrior Games when your caravan is attacked. Orcs and bandits murder your father, capture your companions, and leave you for dead.
Now alone in the world, will you choose to seek glory, vengeance, treasure... or love?
Your choices might make you into a hero, or a queen, or leave you buried forever in the dragon's lair.
