Evaluation
Task Force is a tactical third-person shooter in Early Access. The game is currently not purchasable on Steam — sales have been disabled. In a January 2023 post, the developer explained they took the game off sale because it had launched before it was ready and more content was needed. Multiple May 2024 posts reference plans to get the game "fresh and up-to-date prior to re-releasing back on the store," and the January 2023 post mentions a beta in development alongside the ongoing alpha.
The developer has maintained a consistent pattern of meaningful updates throughout this period. In March 2024, the entire game was migrated from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5, bringing new graphics systems, game modes, character systems, a new jumping system, an overhauled leaning system, and a new stats and rankings framework. This was followed by a series of feature patches through April and May 2024 covering Lumen global illumination, water mechanics, animation overhauls, and audio and performance improvements. In November 2024, the developer shipped a major automated competitive ladder system — described as the central vision of the game since its earliest days as a mod. The most recent post, dated January 13, 2026, delivered ultrawide monitor support and described plans to use the additional screen space for real-time competitive player stats.
Within these updates, the developer has explicitly called out work still in progress: a new ADS system with first-person arms, sights, scopes, and sniper rifles, and full in-game integration of the competitive ladder (currently accessible only via Discord bot). The game remains in active, ongoing development with no indication from the developer that work is winding down. The last developer communication was on January 13, 2026, which is less than nine months ago as of today (October 8, 2026) — well within the pattern of updates established across 2024.
Evidence
Feature patch adds ultrawide resolution support; developer describes plans to use the extra screen space for real-time competitive player stats — the most recent developer communication.
Major automated competitive ladder system launched — described as the core vision of the game. Developer notes the Discord bot implementation will 'eventually be integrated into the game itself, with custom menus.'

About this game
Task Force is the ultimate tactical shooter sandbox that focuses on close quarters infantry combat. It aims to provide competitive arcade-style gameplay inspired by classic third-person games. Maps will include locations around the world where special operations are conducted. These could be jungles, deserts, urban areas or snowy environments. They'll be designed around single-life game modes with mechanics involving either bombs, hostages, or intel.
There are NO plans to include any of the following in Task Force:
- NO Health Regeneration
- NO Weapon Unlocks or Economy
- NO Enemy Targeting (UAV)
- NO Character Progression
- NO Killstreaks, Deathstreaks, or Perks
- NO Drivable Vehicles in PvP (Co-op Only)
- NO Looting or Weapon Drops
- NO Unrealistic Skins
TACTICAL THIRD-PERSON GAMEPLAY
Gameplay focuses on close quarters infantry combat where communication and teamwork are required. Expanding crosshairs provide a sense of weapon inaccuracy which is affected by recoil, stance, movement, and a few other factors. It rewards bursting by keeping tighter shots more precise while still allowing for accurate spray.
STRATEGIC ROUND-BASED GAME MODES
Game modes are round-based and mostly focus on single-life objectives. They’ll involve aspects such as planting or defusing bombs, extracting or guarding hostages, and capturing or defending intel. Each map will be designed to a specific game mode but may also have different areas sectioned off for different modes.
COMPETITIVE LEAGUES AND RANKINGS
Automated ladders and tournaments are integrated directly into the game. Players are provided with a detailed stats profile and a global ranking based on competitive performance. Servers are automatically created for scheduled matches and will instantly report game information upon match completion.
CUSTOM USER-CREATED LOBBIES
Servers are organized based on region and players have the ability to create their own lobbies directly in-game. These custom lobbies provide access to a robust set of management tools such as restricting players to friends-only or clan-only. It also allows for region-locking servers and automatically kicking high ping players.
