The Backrooms Regret

The Backrooms Regret launched on July 24, 2024 as a short prologue chapter (~30–40 minutes). The developer, Noirware, has been open about the current state of the game and their future plans. On January 26, 2026, Noirware officially announced that they are completely remaking the game under the title "The Backrooms Regret: Reborn," with full production beginning in February 2026. The remake involves rebuilt assets in a new visual style, a reworked story, new gameplay mechanics, and an online multiplayer mode. By March 20, 2026, pre-production was wrapping up and progress on core systems was confirmed. A second teaser on May 16, 2026 showed the remake in active development using Unreal Engine 5 and confirmed plans for narrative, mechanics, and online mode to all be ready at launch. Most recently, on July 24, 2026 — the game's second anniversary — Noirware shared a third teaser for the remake and confirmed they are continuing to work toward the final version. They also noted the game's price will gradually increase as development progresses, and that existing owners will receive all future content, including the remake, at no additional cost. The store description confirms that the current prologue will eventually be replaced by the remake, and the developer has already committed to keeping the original "Legacy Version" available alongside it. The target release window for the remake is 2026, though the developer has acknowledged a possible delay into 2027.
