Evaluation

The Bard's Tale Trilogy launched on August 14, 2018 with the first remastered game (Tales of the Unknown) and was always intended to eventually include all three titles in the classic series. The second game, The Bard's Tale II: The Destiny Knight, was added on October 23, 2018. The third and final game, The Bard's Tale III: Thief of Fate, was released on February 26, 2019, completing the trilogy as promised. Following that final volume's release, the developers shipped a substantial quality-of-life and polish update on August 13, 2019 (v4.28), which added full localization in five languages, controller support, an in-game bestiary and manual, and a large number of visual and gameplay improvements. After that, only maintenance patches followed — macOS support was added in November 2019, and a macOS compatibility fix for Apple Silicon was issued in September 2023. No new content, expansions, or roadmap items have been announced since the trilogy was completed. The store description confirms this is a complete collection of all three remastered classics. The August 2019 update represents the last major content addition, after which the game entered a maintenance-only phase. The most recent developer communication was on September 12, 2023, which was a targeted bug fix for macOS users — not an indication of new content.
