Evaluation

The Battle of Polytopia launched on Steam on August 4, 2020 and has maintained a consistent pattern of meaningful post-launch content updates ever since. Since 2022 alone, Midjiwan AB has shipped multiple major content drops: the first tribe skin pack (November 2022), the Path of the Ocean naval overhaul (November 2023), the Aquarion tribe rework (August 2024), a new Aquarion cosmetic skin (November 2024), the Solaris tribe DLC (April 2025), and the comprehensive Cymanti tribe rework (October 29, 2025). These releases establish a clear pattern of major updates roughly every 6-12 months. In addition to major content, the team has released regular balance patches and feature updates throughout this period, including a 2025 balance pass (September 2025) and a hotfix for the Cymanti rework as recently as November 12, 2025. A new weekly challenge system was also introduced in January 2025, adding an ongoing competitive feature. The developer has made no announcement that content development is winding down. With the most recent major release in October 2025 — just about 7-8 months before today — the game is well within its established update rhythm. All 12 DLC items currently listed on the store are released, but given the developer's active track record of shipping new tribe reworks, skin packs, and game mode updates, there is every indication that further content will continue to arrive.

About this game

Welcome, friends, to The Battle of Polytopia, a unique, turn-based strategy game involving strange lands and charismatic tribes, clever technologies, and captivating magic where the ultimate goal is to rule the world. Obvs!

Scene: Enter the Square, the bizarre home planet of the Polytopians, a flat, square-shaped landmass drifting in the space of an alternate dimension to ours. A relatively simple and curious folk that has a penchant for fighting, the Polytopians are 16 individual tribes spread out across the Square, each with their own characteristics, motivations, strengths, and weaknesses. As a player, you will take on the role of the ruler of one of these tribes as you attempt to build your civilization in competition with the other tribes.

Will you choose to be the leader of the Xin-Xi, reserved yet adventurous traditionalists who are wary of change or outsiders? Perhaps the Hoodrick, who love archery, nature, and mushrooms, and are famed for their baked goods! Or maybe the Bardur, where the local tavern is their favorite place and Ullefurgh their drink choice, a delightful concoction of pine needles, hot water, and rabbit fat. Deeeelicious!!

But beware of the Vengir, purple rhino-pig riding warriors who, in between bouts of pillaging, like to sharpen their swords and vacation at the misty Kithkga Boneyards. You really don’t want to get on their bad side!
