The Dark Egg on Steam is a free-to-play demo of a larger game that the developer, Transcend Pixels, has been building toward a full release. The demo launched on August 28, 2022 and received several patches through February 2023. In February 2023, the developer explicitly wrapped up demo updates, stating "This will be the last update for the demo... it's time to build the full game," following a successful Kickstarter campaign to fund full development.
Since then, the developer has posted periodic status updates about progress on the full game. In December 2024, they stated they were "getting closer to release, but still have a few months to go." The most recent update, posted on April 1, 2025, described being in "the last stretch" with a YouTube vlog about current progress.
However, as of June 21, 2026 — more than 14 months after that April 2025 post — no further updates have appeared and the full game has not been released. Given that the developer had been communicating progress periodically and had suggested release was only months away, this prolonged silence raises questions about whether the project has encountered delays or other issues. The demo itself is complete and playable as released, but it represents only a portion of the intended full game experience.

In this text adventure RPG, you travel by boat to an old island, intent on finding the Dark Egg. You will meet many strange people, and encounter things that should not exist, yet stare you in the face regardless.
Every choice you make matters and shapes the story. You will solve puzzles, face enemies, and must explore every corner of the island to make it to your Egg.
Of course, not everyone can make it. Perhaps you might find your ending somewhere else, or, like the others, decide your goals have changed along the way.
The Egg will wait. It always has, and always will. You just have to take it.
