The Darkest Tales launched on October 13, 2022 as a self-contained narrative action-adventure. Following release, the developer shipped several patches through late 2022 and into 2023, addressing bugs, improving controls, and making quality-of-life improvements. The most substantial post-launch update was the Halloween patch (Update 1.09) on October 26, 2023, which overhauled jump mechanics, added DualSense support, and fixed numerous issues — the last meaningful update to the game itself.
Both DLC items on the store — the Extended Edition (released October 13, 2022) and the OST DLC (released February 6, 2023) — have shipped. No unreleased DLC exists in the store listing, and the developer has not announced any additional content for this game.
Since October 2023, the developer's news posts on this game's Steam page have shifted entirely to promoting other 101XP titles: a publisher sale in May 2025, the launch of Lords of Ravage in October 2025, a new hybrid gamebook (Intermundia) announced in February 2026, and the release of The Life and Suffering of Prince Jerian in July 2026. None of these posts announce patches, expansions, or updates for The Darkest Tales. Trinity Team has clearly moved on to other projects. The game launched as a complete, finite story with no live-service or seasonal content model, and all content that was ever planned has shipped.

Happily Never After
You’ll meet familiar characters from your childhood, but the reunion isn’t likely to be a happy one. The gingerbread men are out for blood, Sleeping Beauty seems to be a couple centuries behind on sleep, and the Little Mermaid looks more like a sea witch than an innocent child of the waves.

As it turns out, our hero is a jack-of-all-trades. He crafted a bow and melee weapons from a pair of scissors and uses needles as powerful arrows and grappling hooks. All’s fair in a fight against the forces of evil.

On this journey you will gain experience, master and branch out your skills, and overcome a multitude of challenges — from fighting blood-thirsty rubber duckies to exploring the giants’ castle in the clouds.
