The Hive launched in August 2016 and has been actively maintained and expanded by Skydome Entertainment over many years. The game has received three identified major content releases: the "Rise of the Behemoths" update in March 2020, and most recently the Survival Mode DLC on May 25, 2026, which adds a persistent-progression alternate campaign mode. Between and around these major releases, the developer has shipped a consistent stream of feature patches — including significant updates in January 2025, August 2025, November 2025, January 2026, February 2026, and April 2026 — demonstrating sustained, active engagement with the game. In a January 8, 2026 patch post, the developer outlined future plans including content expansion, unit differentiation, and technical updates. The Survival Mode DLC release post on May 25, 2026 explicitly stated "this is the best time to try Survival Mode and support future development," signaling that development is ongoing rather than concluded. A hotfix followed just four days later on May 29, 2026, addressing issues with the new DLC. No announcement of a final update or end of development has been made.
