The Land of Pain

The Land of Pain is a completed single-developer Lovecraftian horror adventure that launched on September 13, 2017. The developer, Alessandro Guzzo, continued to polish the game after release — adding AI improvements and new language translations in December 2020, and delivering a notable fifth-anniversary graphical and gameplay overhaul on September 9, 2022. That 2022 update added enhanced visuals, puzzle improvements, new secrets, and ultrawide support, and represents the last meaningful content change to the game itself. The only DLC ever released — a "Behind the Scenes" making-of pack — shipped on December 6, 2021. No unreleased DLC exists on the store listing. Since the September 2022 update, all developer attention has shifted entirely toward the next game in the series, Cosmic Fear (announced October 2024, release date confirmed for September 9, 2026 per the April 2026 post). Posts on The Land of Pain's Steam page since 2022 have been limited to announcements about Cosmic Fear, with no new content planned or hinted at for The Land of Pain itself. The game launched as a self-contained experience and has been consistently described as the first chapter in a trilogy — a story now concluded within its own title. There are no outstanding commitments, no unreleased DLC, and no developer statements suggesting further updates to The Land of Pain are coming.
