About this game

Build Your Studio

Begin with limited resources, a small team, and a vision for the kind of films you want to make. Name and develop your studio, establish its reputation, grow its capabilities, and decide what kind of company it will become.

Will you focus on dependable commercial successes, prestige cinema, experimental projects, genre films, or a mixture of everything? Your choices shape the opportunities available to you and the expectations surrounding every future release.

Create Films from the Ground Up

Every production begins with an idea. Develop screenplays, choose genres and themes, define the scale of a project, and decide how much ambition your studio can realistically support.

Research new genres, techniques, facilities, and production capabilities to expand your creative options. A growing studio can attempt larger productions, explore new audiences, and take on projects that were previously out of reach.

Find the Right People

Film production is built around people. Scout and recruit actors, directors, writers, and crew members, then assemble teams capable of delivering your vision.

Talent brings different skills, experience, popularity, costs, relationships, and expectations. The most famous person is not always the best choice for a particular project, and an unknown performer may become the defining face of a successful film.

Manage availability, contracts, competing commitments, and long-term careers as your studio grows.

Manage Production

Greenlighting a film is only the beginning. Control budgets, schedules, staffing, production quality, marketing commitments, and financial risk while the project moves toward completion.

Production events can create difficult choices. A delay may threaten your release date. A rising budget may force you to reduce scope. A creative opportunity may improve the film while putting pressure on your finances.

Choose whether to protect the schedule, spend more to preserve the original vision, change the plan, or accept the consequences.

Compete in the Market

Your films do not exist in isolation. Rival studios compete for talent, audiences, release windows, and commercial opportunities.

Plan around seasonal demand, market conditions, audience expectations, competing releases, and the information available to your studio. Decide whether to release quickly, wait for a stronger window, or take a risk on a crowded market.

A strong film can still struggle if it launches at the wrong time. A well-timed release can give a smaller production the chance to find an audience.

Release, Distribute, and Measure Results

Choose how your films reach audiences. Negotiate distribution, plan marketing, set release strategies, and follow each film’s performance over time.

Track the difference between:

  • Critical reception

  • Audience response

  • Ticket sales

  • Studio revenue

  • Production and marketing costs

  • Profit

  • Talent popularity

  • Franchise and studio reputation

The result of a film is more than a single score. A financial disappointment may still create a valuable character. A critical success may improve your prestige without immediately returning its investment. A commercial hit may create pressure to deliver a sequel.

Build Franchises and Shape Careers

Successful films can create new possibilities. Continue a story with a sequel, explore a supporting character through a spin-off, or return to the world of an earlier film with a larger ambition.

Franchises develop through audience response, continuity, returning talent, reputation, and creative choices. Alternatively, abandon established brands and pursue something entirely original.

Your studio’s history is shaped not only by its biggest successes, but also by the risks it took, the people it developed, and the projects it chose not to make.

Leave a Legacy

Across decades of cinematic change, your studio will accumulate a catalogue of films, talent, financial decisions, awards, failures, franchises, and defining moments.

Watch careers develop. See audience tastes change. Adapt to new technologies and market conditions. Build a studio remembered for cultural influence, commercial power, creative ambition—or simply its ability to survive.

The story of your studio is created through the films you make and the decisions you make between them.
