They Are Hundreds has had a turbulent development history. The game originally launched in a survival format, went through multiple identity changes, and received its last meaningful updates back in 2018. In December 2018, the developer announced they were shifting primary focus to a different project, leaving this game in maintenance mode. Then in September–October 2024, the developer announced a complete rewrite of the game with a new concept: a city-building/tower-defense experience set in Southern Texas. On October 6, 2024, the developer published a phased release roadmap promising a return to Early Access in November 2024, completion of fort-building mechanics by December 2024, and a finished story by January 2025. None of those milestones appear to have been delivered. The game's store page currently displays a prominent "REWRITE IN PROGRESS" banner with the message "More details to be shared soon" — suggesting the rewrite is still ongoing or stalled. There have been no developer news posts or updates since October 6, 2024. With over eight months of silence since that roadmap was published and all promised dates now passed, it is unclear whether the rewrite is still being actively worked on or has been quietly abandoned.
