Evaluation

Those Who Remain is a story-driven psychological horror game that launched on May 28, 2020. Its only post-launch content was a digital comic book ("Lights Out Comic") released on October 29, 2020 — a companion piece rather than a gameplay expansion. No further content has ever been announced or released for the game itself. The developer, Camel 101, has since moved on entirely. They announced their next game, "Beneath," in February 2023 and have been actively promoting and playtesting it through 2025. The studio and publisher (Wired Productions) have been focused exclusively on Beneath and other titles in their publishing portfolio. No post-launch gameplay updates, patches with new features, or expansion content were ever released for Those Who Remain beyond the comic. The news feed for this game's Steam page is entirely composed of Wired Productions publisher announcements for other games in their catalog — none reference any new content for Those Who Remain. Those Who Remain launched as a complete, self-contained narrative experience. With the companion comic released in October 2020 representing the last content addition, and Camel 101 now deep into development on a new title, the game is finished.

STORY

As the lights go out, the embers of darkness are stoked in the sleepy town of Dormont.
Whispers of disappearances carry through the town as a burgeoning, uneasy and irrational fear begins to spread and darkness comes to be an unwelcome reflection to Those Who Remain.

Some mistakes should never happen, not when your life is complete – and yet they do. Edward had the good life, a beautiful wife and the perfect little girl, yet finds himself several whiskeys down and driving through the night of Dormont to end his secret affair - in a bid to fix his mistakes.

As Edward pulls into the Golden Oak Motel, he is unaware just how much this night will change his life…

The horrors and darkness that thrive in the corner of every eye are torn loose…
