Evaluation

Unemployment Simulator 2018 launched on February 3, 2026 as a solo-developed indie game by Samuel Lehikoinen. At launch, the developer announced several post-launch commitments: full controller support, Steam Deck compatibility, additional languages, and more achievements. Since then, all publicly announced commitments have been fulfilled. A March 13, 2026 patch delivered eight new languages. A May 5, 2026 patch added three more languages (Polish, Turkish, and Thai), along with controller improvements. A June 15, 2026 patch delivered Steam Deck approval and controller support — the last of the features explicitly promised at launch. The developer's only subsequent move was releasing the Original Soundtrack as DLC on August 7, 2026. No further content updates, roadmaps, or announcements have been made since June 15, 2026. The DLC list shows only the soundtrack (released), with no unreleased DLC entries. The developer has not announced any planned content beyond what has already shipped. The soundtrack release on August 7, 2026 is the most recent store activity, but it represents a cosmetic/companion product rather than a signal of ongoing game development. With all launch commitments fulfilled and no new commitments communicated, the game appears to be content-complete.

About this game

How long can you survive unemployment?

The year is 2018, you are trapped in a single-bedroom apartment somewhere in an undisclosed Nordic welfare state. Your objective is to survive in the mind-numbing loop of long-term unemployment and social isolation.

The Game

Survival
You have stats to manage: the physiological needs of the body, and your mental health. Maintain high dopamine levels to avoid a literal death by boredom. Eat, drink (responsibly), use the toilet, wash yourself, hide from responsibilities, and keep yourself sufficiently entertained. Just stay alive, ok? Survive the week. It'll get better.

Story-driven
Advance through your personal story. You survived the day? Then you can go to sleep. Something's calling you. You’ll find an escape in your dreams. It’s when you sleep that you are most alive. In fact, you can be anything in your dreams. A salaryman. A husband. A hero!

Until the alarm goes off again.
