Evaluation
Unfortunate Spacemen launched out of Early Access as a free-to-play game on June 12, 2020, and received a series of substantial post-launch updates: v1.2 (October 19, 2020), v1.3 (November 29, 2020), v1.4 (May 15, 2021), v1.5 (August 14, 2021), and v1.6 (January 27, 2022).
On December 22, 2021, the developer (now operating under the name Deep Field Games) published a formal announcement addressing the game's future directly. In that post, they stated: "We are not currently planning any major content updates for it at this time, beyond 1.6." Update 1.6 then shipped on January 27, 2022, fulfilling that final commitment. Since then, the only developer communications have been a routine server infrastructure update in March 2024 and posts promoting the studio's new game, Abiotic Factor, in January and May 2024. None of those posts announce or hint at new content for Unfortunate Spacemen.
The developer has clearly communicated that major content development for the game concluded with Update 1.6, and that post-launch support would be limited to bug fixes and maintenance. The game can be considered content-complete as of January 27, 2022.
Evidence
Update 1.6 (The Task Update) shipped, fulfilling the final major content commitment the developer had announced. This is the last major content release for the game.
Developer announcement states Deep Field Games is 'not currently planning any major content updates' for Unfortunate Spacemen 'beyond 1.6', signaling the end of major content development

About this game
Originally released on Early Access in 2016, Unfortunate Spacemen is a multiplayer game about space-based deception and murder in space! Spacemen work diligently to be rescued from their failing outpost, but not everyone is who they claim to be... Death is part of life in space, and you're no exception to the rule. Paranoia runs rampant.
- Shapeshifter Mode: Survive, hunt, or complete randomized objectives to escape, in desolate settlements, arctic outposts, derelict space stations, warp-speed hypertrains, or ancient digsites across 15 distinct alien locales, and up to 16 players per match!
- As a Spaceman, complete objectives to call for rescue, or go hunt the Monster in packs!
- Mimic and devour the Spacemen as the Monster from the blackest reaches of the galaxy! Lay traps, disguise as other players, or take them head-on in your devestating Monster Form!
- As a Traitor, help the Monster win, perhaps even at the cost of your own life!
- Solo / Co-op Story Mode: Fight against the Crumerian insect swarm as you battle with up to 5 friends through the bonus story mode!
- Solo / Co-op Survival Mode: Survive with up to 9 other friends for as long as you can against progressively more difficult waves of enemies!
- Proximity Chat: All in-game communication fades with distance from the speaker, so you can roam, sneak, hide, and eavesdrop as you hunt or run from other players!
- Security Guards (Bots) roam the facility. Use them to help learn the ropes and practice, or just add them for more chaos to a multiplayer game!
- Rank up through The Company to unlock new customization and perks to customize your look and your playstyle!
