Evaluation
Unknightly is a VR stealth game that entered Early Access in November 2017. The developer, Portal Studios (a solo developer named Jake), was initially quite active — shipping multiple major updates through 2017 and 2018, and communicating regularly with the community. In July 2019, the developer publicly acknowledged an extended personal hiatus and recommitted to finishing the game, targeting a 1.0 release by September 30, 2019. That deadline was missed.
The game received its largest content update in October 2020, which added two new village levels, a reworked story and objectives system, and a remastered player hub. That same post outlined several features still planned but not yet delivered: a stealth score system, dynamic background music, a third village chapter ("Village: Chapter III") serving as the story's conclusion, non-lethal guard takeouts, and expanded Steam achievements. These represent the remaining commitments needed to reach a full 1.0 release.
The developer's last communication was a bug fix post on February 8, 2021. Since then — a period spanning over five years — there have been no updates, announcements, or developer posts of any kind. The game remains in Early Access on Steam, still priced for purchase, with none of the promised remaining content appearing to have shipped. There is no developer statement explaining the silence, announcing closure, or confirming that development has ended. The outstanding commitments from October 2020 remain unresolved, and the prolonged silence raises serious questions about whether development is still ongoing.

Short Background Story
Unknightly is a medieval VR stealth game designed from the ground up for virtual reality. You assume the role of a retired master-thief as he is drawn back into a life once thought left behind, to come to the aid of an old comrade, in the eternal tale of greed-fueled and power-starved men seeking to impose their will upon the masses, regardless of the cost.

VR: Stealth First
This is first and foremost a stealth game, so there's almost always multiple ways to solve every challenge.
Using combat to eliminate guards is viable but not mandatory, and might not always be possible!
Instead, you are encouraged to think through different situations and find ways to get around unnoticed,
steal valuable items, and get out without being caught!

Stealth and Cunning?
- Move around you will have to sneak past guards and climb walls.
- Walk around in shadows and avoid areas with a lot of light to stay invisible even when walking close to guards.
- Be careful not to make loud noises to avoid making guards suspicious.
- Throw objects around to distract guards and create a window of opportunity for you to execute your plans!
- And more...

The Experience & Choice
- Choice in how you approach each and every level. There is always more than one path to the objective.
- Scout through technically challenging and visually compelling environments in search of valuable objects.
- Feel the tension creep up on you as you realize that every mistake could be fatal.
