Evaluation

Until We Die launched on June 3, 2021. Shortly after launch, the developer published a roadmap (June 25, 2021) outlining several planned content additions, including new maps, a new flamethrower character, and eventually a Nintendo Switch port — all promised as free updates. Throughout late 2021, the team posted regular development updates showing active work on a second scenario called "Autumn," featuring new mechanics, enemies, and a new station setting. In March 2022, the developer acknowledged that the war in Ukraine had disrupted the team, and that they were undertaking a significant code rewrite to properly support all the new content they had planned. On December 31, 2022, the developer posted a reassuring year-end message confirming the team was still intact, still committed to updating the game, and optimistic about the future — despite the hardship of team members relocating abroad. That post on December 31, 2022 is the last official communication from Pixeye Games. As of June 25, 2026, more than three and a half years have passed with no further news, patches, or developer statements. The second scenario and other roadmap content were never confirmed as released. Given the outstanding commitments that were never delivered and the extended silence that has followed, it is not possible to determine whether the team is still working on the game or whether development has quietly ended.

About this game

Until We Die is a base defense strategy game. Your base is the subway station, it's underground part. You'll have to defend it against all sorts of things, brought in by meteorites.

To win, you have to survive for about 30 game days, fending off all the attacks on the base. At first, it'll be small packs of creatures, and by the end, you'll have to fight a sweeping horde of mutants. Also, the game will end early if our hero, Ivan, dies or if the power generator, the heart of the base, is destroyed.

Until We Die is not a conventional strategy game. Here you have to run around as Ivan and dispense ass-kicking valuable orders to your subjects. There's no advanced AI. Humans are reluctant to take the initiative, and those lazy bastards don't want to do anything on their own.

And there's a lot to do: building fortifications, researching technology to build even stronger fortifications and defend more effectively, sending expeditions to the surface, attacking mutant lairs to secure new land for farms and tents, gathering supplies from crates, and extracting food from mushrooms and anything else that looks edible... wasn't there a fat rat running down the tracks?
