Evaluation
Viscera Cleanup Detail launched on October 23, 2015 and received steady post-launch support over the following years. The last paid DLC — The Vulcan Affair — shipped on December 10, 2018, accompanied by a free update (v1.1) that added three new levels to the base game. That appears to be the final content delivered for the original game.
Since 2018, RuneStorm's communications have shifted entirely away from updating the original VCD and toward building a sequel. As early as December 2020, the developer publicly discussed porting and rebuilding the game on a newer engine. By October 2023, they confirmed they were working on VCD 2 as a full sequel built in Unreal Engine 5. Their December 2023, December 2024, and December 2025 developer posts are all progress updates on VCD 2's development — none mention new content for the original game. The December 2020 post explicitly stated "no content additions are planned" for the upcoming VCD update at that time, reinforcing that the original game's content cycle had wound down.
All three DLC entries in the store are released. The developer has made no announcement of additional content for the original game in over six years. The studio's active development work is focused entirely on the sequel. The original Viscera Cleanup Detail is a complete, finished product.
