ILLUSION, the developer and publisher of VR Kanojo, announced on July 14, 2023 that it would be permanently ceasing all development and sales activities effective August 18, 2023. The studio confirmed it had explored all options for continuing operations but concluded it was not viable. A follow-up post on August 18, 2023 noted a minor adjustment to the closing schedule, confirming the shutdown proceeded as announced. ILLUSION also confirmed that customers who had already purchased and downloaded the game would be able to continue playing it. No future content, updates, or continuation of any kind was indicated. The game launched on April 8, 2018 and received a handful of patches and one major content update in the months following release, but all developer activity has ended with the studio's closure. The game is a completed, static product with no further development possible.
