About this game
Your desktop, alive — and aware of your machine
Wallpaper turns your Windows desktop into a living surface. Not a video on loop:
these are scenes that read your hardware in real time. Your graphics card heats up
and the sky reddens. Your music plays and the ocean moves with it. Snow falls and
settles on your real desktop icons.
600+ wallpapers, 14 categories
- Fractal — endless mathematical patterns, Julia/Mandelbrot, orbit traps
- Visualization — flowing music visualisation patterns, hundreds to choose from
- Playground — scenes you can touch with the mouse that live on their own
- Desktop-Aware — scenes that read the real icons and windows on your desktop
- HTML Boards — single-file scenes; text, colour and layout change from the right panel
- 3D Scene — three.js scenes, glTF models, real depth
- Particles & Flow — flocking, fluids, gravity, cursor interaction
- Shader — raw GLSL scenes, raymarching, procedural textures
- Scene & Landscape — sky, ocean, mountains, day cycle
- Minimal & Clock — clean typography, clocks, single-colour compositions

- Retro — CRT, VHS, 90s screensavers
- Images & Video — your own photos and videos
It reacts to your machine
This is the part a video wallpaper cannot do. Scenes can read:- Processor load, per-core load, clock speed and temperature
- Graphics card load, VRAM, temperature, power draw and fan
- Memory usage and the top memory-consuming process
- Every physical disk: free space, read/write traffic
- Network speed, up and down, and the active adapter
- The audio coming out of your speakers — spectrum and waveform
- The real icons and windows on your desktop
- Clock, date and uptime
card, 189 memory, 175 the disks, 89 the network, and 38 read your actual desktop
icons.
Tune everything, without writing code
Every wallpaper exposes its own settings panel — 5,500+ settings across thelibrary. Colour, speed, density, which data source drives which effect. Save your
tuning as a preset. Each monitor can run a different wallpaper with different
settings, and your layout survives cable swaps because settings are bound to the
monitor's hardware identity.
Your own photos and videos
Point it at a folder and every image or video inside — subfolders included — islisted. Click one and it becomes the wallpaper of the selected monitor. Fit,
brightness, playback speed, volume, blur are all adjustable. Your files are never
copied and never moved; they stay exactly where they are.
Built to stay out of the way
- When a window covers a monitor, rendering stops completely
- Full-screen games pause every wallpaper automatically
- Each wallpaper declares its own frame-rate cap
- A per-wallpaper memory badge tells you what it actually costs
Anyone can build one — there are no limits
The editor is the other half of this product. Open it and you are looking at plainHTML, CSS and JavaScript with a live preview next to it. Save, and the wallpaper
reloads instantly. No build step, no account, no upload.
- 2D — canvas, SVG, CSS animation: anything a browser can draw
- 3D — three.js and Babylon.js templates, glTF models, real depth
- Shaders — write GLSL straight onto a full-screen quad
- HTML boards — one single file is enough
pw.subscribe('hw.gpu.temp', v => ...) and your scene knows how hot the
graphics card is. The same goes for the sound coming out of your speakers, memory,
disks, network, the clock, even the real icons on your desktop.
Don't write code? Describe the wallpaper you want to any AI assistant, paste the
JavaScript it gives you into the editor and press save. The API is small and
documented, and every one of the 600+ bundled wallpapers can be opened as a copy
and taken apart — the copy is yours, the original stays untouched.
31 languages
The interface is fully translated into all 31 languages Steam supports. On firstrun it follows your Windows language.
Everything stays on your machine
Wallpaper reads your hardware locally and shows it to you. There is no account, notelemetry, and no network connection in the core product. Wallpapers run in an
isolated browser context that cannot reach your file system, cannot start
processes, and cannot reach the network unless a wallpaper declares it and you
approve it. Every permission is listed before you apply a wallpaper and can be
revoked at any time from the Permissions page.
