Evaluation

Welcome to the Karoshi Club is a free visual novel that launched on December 27, 2023 as a self-described "free prologue" and showcase for the developer's planned main Karoshi Club game. The developer, Kamishibai Interactive, was clear and explicit about the update trajectory for this release. In a March 8, 2024 post [NEWS-2], the developer stated: "This will be the final major update for Welcome to the Karoshi Club. After this, only minor updates containing text revisions or new volunteer localization packs will be released." This was reaffirmed in the May 2, 2024 Update 1.2 post [NEWS-4], which closed with: "This will be the last major update for our free prologue, and we will only have small updates from now on." True to their word, the updates since then have been exactly that — minor localization additions. Update 1.2.1 on June 29, 2024 added a Vietnamese language pack [NEWS-8], and Update 1.3.0 on August 24, 2025 added a Spanish language pack [NEWS-1]. Both are squarely within the "minor updates with new volunteer localization packs" category the developer explicitly described as the ongoing maintenance mode. All released DLC — the soundtrack (December 27, 2023) and the manga (May 10, 2024) — has shipped [DLC-1, DLC-2]. No unreleased DLC appears in the store listing. The developer's own framing is that this game is a finished prologue piece; the "main Karoshi Club" game is a separate, future product that is still in development. This title itself is complete, with the last localization patch on August 24, 2025 representing the most recent (and likely final) minor update.
