Evaluation

When The Night Comes launched on August 9, 2021 as a complete visual novel — the store description explicitly states the game was "originally completed in October 2019." The Steam release brought updated artwork, partial voice acting, and quality-of-life improvements to that finished story. The game received one post-launch DLC: Living Dead Girl, a standalone Halloween mini-tale announced on October 9, 2022 and released on October 28, 2022. This represents the only post-launch content addition, and it shipped as described. The store description references "3 post-game DLCs unlocked after you complete the main game," but only one DLC (Living Dead Girl) exists in the store listing, and it is released. The other two appear to be unlockable bonus content built into the base game itself rather than separate store DLC listings. The last developer communication of any kind was the Living Dead Girl launch post on October 29, 2022. There have been no news posts, announcements, or developer communications since that date. The developer has not announced any additional content, roadmap, or future plans. Given that the base game launched as a self-described completed product and the one announced DLC has shipped, the game's content is complete.

About this game

Play as a renowned Hunter; a creature slayer who has been called to the quiet, strange little town of Lunaris to assist the local Enforcers with an investigation into a series of unsettling and unexplained supernatural murders.

Immerse yourself in the world of witches, vampires, demons, and Lycans as you slowly unravel the dark mystery that lies deep within the roots of the town.

The question is, are the creatures of the night the ones you should really be afraid of? You might even fall in forbidden love along the way.

When The Night Comes is a queer, narrative-driven, supernatural visual novel originally completed in October 2019. The new version of the game includes partial voice acting, new artwork, a codex, and improved UI.
