Wretched Depths

Wretched Depths is a free-to-play PSX-style horror fishing game created by University of Utah capstone students, which launched into Early Access on March 26, 2023 and reached its 1.0 release on April 26, 2023. At launch, the team announced ambitious plans for a "Wretched Depths 2.0" update, promising new story content, characters, controller support, and quality-of-life improvements. However, on September 21, 2023, one of the developers posted a candid status update explaining that coordinating post-graduation college students across full-time jobs and graduate programs in different time zones proved far more difficult than anticipated, and that development had fallen apart as a result. The post explicitly states: "It pains me to say there may never be any further development on this game." This is a direct developer statement that development has effectively concluded. No further updates have been posted after September 21, 2023. The promised 2.0 content was never delivered, but the developer has acknowledged this and communicated the reason. The game shipped as a complete 1.0 experience — the student project was finished as intended. The completion date is set to the 1.0 release on April 26, 2023, as the game launched as a finished product and no subsequent content was ever added post-launch.
