X-Mode launched for free on September 19, 2025, after five years of development by solo indie developer xzippyzachx. Since launch, the game has received a consistent stream of substantial updates. Three named major content releases have shipped: the Spooky Patch (October 9, 2025) adding night map variants and themed cosmetics; the v1.1.0 update (December 12, 2025) introducing the Gun Game mode, a new Deagle weapon, attachments, and more map variants; and the Love Patch (February 8, 2026) adding themed cosmetics and a new Silo map. On October 24, 2025, the developer explicitly stated they were pausing smaller patches to work on "a larger update with more content" — a promise subsequently delivered in December 2025. Most recently, on October 2, 2026, the developer shipped an Offline Mode patch that ensures the game remains playable even if online support is eventually discontinued, citing the Stop Killing Games movement. While this patch is maintenance-focused rather than content-focused, it confirms the developer remains actively engaged with the game. No specific future content has been announced, but the established update cadence of major releases every 1–4 months — with no statement from the developer about winding down — indicates development is ongoing.
