10 Years After has been in Early Access since January 30, 2015 and has never left that state. The game's development history is turbulent: the original developer (Ten Tree Games) sold the IP to Rock Paper Games in November 2015. Following the acquisition, Rock Paper Games published a detailed roadmap outlining a multi-chapter story structure, major system overhauls, and a plan to deliver the game in phases — all as free updates to existing owners.
Through early 2016, Rock Paper Games posted several updates indicating active development. The most recent communication was on April 22, 2016, where the developer stated "production is in full swing," noted they had about 1.5 hours of story-driven content in place, and acknowledged the game world still needed significant work. That is the last time the developer communicated publicly.
Since April 22, 2016 — more than a decade ago — there have been no further updates, patches, announcements, or any other communication from Rock Paper Games. The ambitious roadmap, including multiple story chapters and major gameplay system revisions, was never completed or officially cancelled. The game remains purchasable on Steam in its very early alpha state with a 10% positive review score from 129 reviews. There is no indication of whether the studio still exists or intends to resume work on the game.
