8-Bit Invaders! launched on December 16, 2016 as a complete real-time strategy game. Petroglyph supported it actively in its first year with multiple feature patches — adding replay support, observer mode, and Multiverse mode upgrades — and continued occasional maintenance updates over the following years. The most recent update to the game was a community patch on November 14, 2023, which added a new in-game music track ("Bug Hunt"), made balance adjustments, and fixed several bugs. This was part of a broader update applied across the entire 8-Bit series.
Since then, Petroglyph's focus has clearly shifted to their sequel, 9-Bit Armies: A Bit Too Far, which entered Early Access in February 2024 and reached full release in October 2024. News posts from 2024 onward are exclusively about 9-Bit Armies, with 8-Bit Invaders! mentioned only in passing during a Steam sale post. There are no unreleased DLC, no announced future content, and no developer statements indicating further updates are planned for 8-Bit Invaders!. The single DLC (the soundtrack) shipped on release day in 2016 and has since had new tracks added to it via patches.
The November 14, 2023 patch represents the last known developer activity on the game. Given the studio's full pivot to its sequel and the absence of any communicated plans for 8-Bit Invaders!, the game appears to be complete.
