Evaluation

8BitBoy launched on May 5, 2014 as a solo-developed classic platformer. In the months following launch, developer Rasmus Kønig Sørensen was highly active, shipping a rapid series of updates — adding new mechanics, power-ups, level redesigns, music, and performance improvements through mid-2014. The last recorded developer communication is the version 1.53 performance patch on February 1, 2015, which the developer described as a "long overdue" update addressing lingering technical issues. That post contains no mention of planned future content, and the developer noted that new features and content were "coming to an end" as early as July 2014 (NEWS-3). There have been no developer posts, patches, or announcements of any kind since February 1, 2015 — over 11 years of silence. The store description presents the game as a complete, self-contained product with no mention of DLC, expansions, or ongoing updates. No unreleased DLC is listed. The game launched and was finished as a complete package; the post-launch updates were polish and quality-of-life improvements rather than a sustained content expansion cycle, and those concluded in early 2015.

Who's 8BitBoy?

8BitBoy is out of a job, and quite frankly he's depressed about it. Then he suddenly remembers all the good times he had as a kid, playing his trusted 8-bit console. Deep down in the far and darkest corner of the basement he finds it along with a strange looking cartridge. He plugs in the cartridge right away, and get sucked into a vivid, but decaying world of platforming. And this is where your adventure takes off.

8BitBoy is the platformer I always dreamt about playing as a kid.

It's a fantastic mash-up of the greatest of the late 80's and 90's and a complete game on it's own terms. This is a true tribute to old school gaming and by no means a walk in the park, but it's also never unfair. With big challenges, the sense of accomplishment is always bigger and better.

To me, 8BitBoy is the ultimate classic platformer on PC and Mac. and a symbol of my love and passion for gaming.

Yours Sincerely,
Rasmus Kønig Sørensen
Indie developer and sole creator of 8BitBoy
